Further Information:
This DVD and handbook has been produced as a guide for adults who work with young children and its content offeres ideas on how to potensialy intensify children's learning in the outdoors and as they interact with the natural world. The content also comes from research with younger children in the Foundation Phase in a variety of circumstances, for example, beach, forest and tarmac yard.
Adults are encouraged to see the possibilities in their outdoor areas, to overcome problems, because there is no perfect outdoor area available to all. By watching the clips on the DVD and offering answers to the set of questions, it offers continuing professional development training.
There are references to the pioneers of the field, for example, Froebel, Piaget and Margaret McMillan that influence contemporary work by Tovey, Knight, Gill and Louv.
The authors have had the privilege of visiting a number of foreign countries, including Denmark, Sweden and Reggio Emilia in Italy, where there is good practice in the outdoors.
