Bywgraffiad Awdur:
Alun John Richards has spent some thirty years studying the archaeology and methods of the slate industry of Wales. An engineer by profession, he has been responsible for several technical innovations in that industry.
He was for many years a guest tutor at the Snowdonia National Park Study Centre, Plas Tan y Bwlch, and sometime lecturer at Coleg Harlech Summer Schools. A native of Swansea, he is a past chairman of the South West Wales Industrial Archaeology Society and besides writing and lecturing on slate quarrying and metal mining, is an active campaigner on behalf of all things Welsh.
Gwybodaeth Bellach:
This book, the first comprehensive published study of slate quarrying in south west Wales, sets out to provide a brief account of this once important industry and the railways which served it. It identifies and describes almost one hundred sites in Pembrokeshire, southern Cardiganshire and western Carmarthenshire, with historical accounts of the larger undertakings.
