Robert Williams Parry’s work as a poet is comparatively small in bulk, just two slim volumes, but they include about fifty poems that are of permanent value: the early sonnets, the englynion in memory of friends killed in the First World War, the poems on the theme of growing old and the ravages of time, the sonnets he wrote towards the end of the 1930s and the lyrics celebrating the wonders of the natural world. ‘Eifionydd’ belongs to the last three of these groups and is one of the most famous poems in the Welsh language.
