Dylan Thomas was born in Swansea in 1914. The main facts of his life are well known, both in Wales and abroad. But although most are familiar with the bally-hoo of his rumbustious life in London and the tragic circumstances of his death in New York in 1953, fewer are aware that he was firmly rooted in the Wales of his time, especially in his 'ugly lovely' home town of Swansea in his short stories and in the Welsh-speaking countryside of Carmarthenshire and Cardiganshire where his relatives lived.
