Author Biography:
Lisa Jones is an applied linguist. Before she had children she worked full-time for Canning, where she designed and taught highly tailored English courses to a wide variety of foreign business people. When her first child was one she moved to Wales, where she started to learn Welsh from scratch. After studying at the University of Glamorgan and teaching for 3 years at Coleg Gwent (helping other learners through the first three Welsh for Adults exams – Mynediad, Sylfaen and Canolradd) she started running classes for parents at her children’s Welsh-speaking primary school in order to raise money for school funds. She now combines occasional work as an Associate Canning Trainer in London with voluntary work for her community. Lisa lives near Brecon.
Further Information:
This book and CD pack is specifically designed for parents who have decided to educate their children through the medium of Welsh and who are keen to learn a bit of Welsh themselves so that they can share the language with their children. They contain language parents or grandparents can use with children in the home, and also some language a learner needs in order to gradually speak a bit of Welsh with other parents and teachers out in the community.
They are suitable for complete beginners, and they are also aimed at parents or grandparents who have a done a little Welsh before; perhaps many years ago with a family member or at school, or who have done evening classes more recently. Working through the CDs and the written exercises will give you the confidence to use some Welsh as part of your everyday life, both at home with the children, and out there in the community - at parent and toddler group sessions, for example, or with the teachers and parents at playgroup or school.
